Volunteer Now
Volunteering with the IAM
Volunteers are at the heart of everything the IAM does. Many of the products and services that we offer would not exist without the support of volunteers during planning, development, and implementation stages.
We have an ambitious strategic plan, which outlines how we will support our members, help organisations enhance their asset management capabilities, grow our knowledge base, and develop the IAM and its global reach over the next three years. We need your help to make it happen!
What’s in it for me?
Becoming a volunteer offers a number of benefits, both for your career and your health and wellbeing!
Volunteering with the IAM is a great way to expand your networks within the asset management community. Work with other professionals from all sectors across the discipline and develop new skills to enhance your career. Whether it’s joining an IAM Committee or submitting case studies and articles, we’ve got something for everyone.
The health benefits of volunteering are well documented. They include improved mental health, an increased sense of purpose and greater self-confidence.

Asset Management Career Journeys
As part of our ongoing efforts to support the professional development of our members and attract newcomers to the field of asset management, we are excited to be developing a series of career pathways. These will showcase the diverse roles, skills, and experiences within our profession, providing valuable insight into the career opportunities available.
To make this initiative a success, we need your help! We are inviting you to share your own career journey—whether through a short video clip or a written entry. By contributing your personal experience, you will be helping to inspire others and demonstrate the wide variety of pathways available in asset management.
Here are some points you might consider including:
- Your current role and responsibilities
- How you started your career in asset management
- Key milestones or turning points in your career
- Advice for those entering or progressing in the profession
- Skills or qualifications that have helped you succeed
If you’re interested in participating, please submit your video or written entry to office@theiam.org.
Case Studies for SSGs
We are looking for case studies to feed into our Subject Specific Guidelines. The aim is to capture individual and collective experiences of asset management capabilities and practices so that they can be shared and discussed. We are looking for case studies from any sector and any geography, and they can cover any SSG or potentially multiple SSGs.
We will use these case studies in our publications and on our website. Download this template to help with suggested areas to include.
Your case study can be uploaded in any file format, such as a Word document or PowerPoint presentation, by selecting "volunteer now" below.
IAM Self-Assessment Methodology +
The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) is looking for passionate professionals to help review, and revise our Self-Assessment Methodology +. This Methodology enables organizations in all sectors to measure their capabilities against the requirements of ISO55001 and the asset management subjects defined in the GFMAM Asset Management Landscape and described in the IAM Anatomy. This project will ensure that the methodology aligns with the latest industry developments, including updates to the GFMAM Asset Management Landscape, the IAM Anatomy, and the ISO 55000 suite of standards.
We are seeking volunteers in several key areas:
- Steering Group
Join the strategic team overseeing the project and guiding the direction of the methodology updates. Ideal for senior leaders or experienced practitioners who understand the evolving landscape of asset management. Your insights will help ensure the methodology remains a relevant, world-class tool.
- User Experience Group
Have you used the IAM Self-Assessment Methodology? We want to hear from you! Share your experiences to help us understand how the methodology works in practice, what value it has brought, and where there are opportunities for improvement.
- Insights Group
This group will dive deeper into the broader usage of the methodology across different sectors and geographies. We’re particularly interested in understanding what other tools and methods are being used in conjunction with the Self-Assessment Methodology +. If you have experience in asset management toolsets or assessment frameworks, your knowledge will be invaluable.
- Review and Revision Group
This dedicated team will carry out a detailed review and revision of the Self-Assessment Methodology +, incorporating insights from the Steering Group, User Experience Group, and the Insights Group. We are looking for professionals who are methodical and analytical, with a keen eye for detail, and who can help ensure the methodology is robust and meets the requirements of the wider asset management community.
Whether you're interested in steering the project, contributing feedback based on your experiences, or joining the review team, we would love to hear from you!
The deadline for volunteer applications is 27 October.
