This workshop will provide an overview of why value is essential in decision-making.  Delegates will learn how to identify the value criteria that matter most to their organization and discover how to construct a Value Framework to assess and prioritize projects for maximum value realization.

An interactive session, the ‘Copperleaf Optimisation Game’, will be utilized to provide participants with hands-on experience in applying Value-Based Decision-Making principles to achieve concrete results.

• Participants will develop and take away their own high-level Value Framework tailored to their organization.

During the workshop delegates will learn and explore:

• The concept of value and its importance in asset management decisions
• The components and significance of a Value Framework and how it aligns with corporate strategy
• The core principles and objectives of Value-Based Decision-Making (VBDM)
• Engage in interactive sessions where participants work in teams to optimize portfolios of projects. Participants will be challenged to make trade-off decisions between different investment projects while considering multiple constraints and business targets.  They will also undertake different roles (e.g. portfolio or investment owners) responsible for assets, such as Water & Wastewater, Renewable Generation, Rail, etc.
• How to incorporate project dependencies, budget constraints, and strategic objectives to maximize value.
• How applying a shared understanding of value through a Value Framework can drive measurable outcomes
• How to align value measures with organizational goals
• Different types of investments and their impact on value decisions
• The role of risk assessment in Value-Based Decision-Making
• Various value models, including data-driven and questionnaire-based models
• Value models and the underlying logic for connecting value measures to investments in participants’ own organisations
• How to standardize and calibrate value measures for consistent evaluation
• Examples and stories of organizations that use value-based decision-making serving different maturity levels and sectors tailored to the audience
• The importance of finalizing and continuously reviewing the Value Framework
