    Hello everyone,

    We are kicking off the year with a workshop on Root Cause Analysis led by Steve Stark, recently retired from the Maintenance of Way Division in the Department of Subways at MTA New York City Transit. Steve has over 10 years of experience in the rail industry including his work at the Chicago Transit Authority. He is a doctoral candidate at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering’s Transportation Planning and Engineering program, where his research focuses on a decision support system for the management of low-level track nonconformities. During the workshop Steve will be presenting a synopsis of his work on root cause analysis with a focus on resiliency and sustainability. Then, along with our team, we will engage in a group activity that demonstrates the importance of sustainability and resiliency in the life cycle management of an asset.

    In response to an SRBI [Small Business Research Initiative] Competition Cavendish and their partners have developed an innovative solution to decommissioning nuclear process cells where man access is impossible. The solution combines 3D Lidar Scanning, Virtual Reality and laser cutting using a remote deployment system. Development testing of the process has been successful. Fully integrated testing of the system will be conducted in December 2018 using a full-size inactive mock-up. The system has utility far beyond the nuclear industry.

    From 24-27 September 2018, BEMAS, the Belgian Maintenance Association, will organise Euromaintenance 4.0 in Antwerp. Since 1972, this biennial event has been the most important European conference on technical maintenance, production reliability and asset management, organised under the umbrella of EFNMS (European Federation of National Maintenance Societies). Euromaintenance 4.0 focuses on professionals in maintenance, reliability, production, asset management, condition monitoring and engineering in asset-intensive industries in Europe and beyond.
